The FTSE 100 edged higher on Wednesday, recovering some ground after a 0.3% decline in the previous session, helped by ongoing weakness in oil prices and renewed optimism over US-Iran diplomatic efforts. Oil prices fell for a sixth consecutive session, putting Brent on course for its longest losing streak in more than a year, after President Donald Trump said US officials had held a “very good” meeting with Iranian representatives as Washington stepped up efforts to resolve the conflict.

In corporate news, JD Sports gained nearly 1% after reiterating its full-year guidance, even after trimming its outlook last month in response to softness in the trainer market. Diageo slipped about 0.8% after naming Joanne Wilson, currently chief financial officer at WPP, as its new CFO from 2027. Elsewhere, Airtel Money confirmed plans for a London listing that could become the city’s largest IPO since 2021, offering a potential lift to an otherwise subdued market. Investors are also looking ahead to the release of the latest UK PMI figures.
