The TAIEX, Taiwan’s benchmark stock index, rose 355 points, or 0.7%, to 48,255 in Wednesday morning trading, extending its winning streak to a sixth consecutive session and setting a new record high. The advance was driven primarily by gains in the electronics and technology sector, supported by optimism over increased investment in AI infrastructure. Electronics and technology shares climbed 1.2%. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC)—the world’s largest contract chipmaker and a heavyweight that accounts for more than 40% of the market’s total capitalization—rose 1.2%, rebounding after a decline on Tuesday. Nanya Technology and Asia Vital Component also posted strong gains, jumping 5.0% and 4.1%, respectively.

The broader market tracked Wall Street higher after the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite notched a record close, lifted by robust advances in AI-related stocks. Additional support came from easing oil prices and lower US Treasury yields, which improved risk appetite. Market sentiment was further bolstered by optimism surrounding the upcoming Trump–Xi summit, where investors expect AI and tariffs to be key topics of discussion.
